What's Off The Needles...

Here's a scarf I knitted for my granddaughter. She is a Harry Potter fan. You can make it any color you choose. It's very simple. I used a 16" circular size 8 needle. Cast on 70. Place marker and join in the round. Work in the stockinette stitch (knit all stitches) 7inches wide and 70 inches long without fringe, or as long as you want it.

I was taking it to her today, but seem to be under the weather a bit, so it will have to wait.

Have a great evening!

My Obsession...

My recent obsession with knitting has begun to take on a life of it's on. Several years ago I found myself immersed in quilting, which I still love to do, however, with my machine on the fritz I haven't pieced in quite some time, but at that time I decided I loved piecing quilts so much that I would probably never crochet again. I proceeded to gather up all my yarn. I filled a black garbage bag full and took it to my mother. She was glad to have it. She was the type who used whatever yarn she had on hand and made many colorful afghans. Now that she has passed away the yarn is at my dad's house.

I found myself in his house the other day going through her yarn to find bits and colors to fit a particular ongoing project that uses small amounts. I'm trying my best not to let that black garbage bag find it's way back home. I think I should just continue to pilfer---as needed.

While my mother taught me how to crochet at 15 she could never get knitting through my thick skull. I am slowly but surely improving. Learning to knit is like learning to play bridge. I have this over-whelming feeling that if I practice the rest of my life I'll never learn it all.

My son called Wednesday to let me know we have another grandchild on the way. The baby is due in September, so this gives me some elbow room. Ha! I'm such a procrastinator. Anyway, I'm going to try to knit this baby blanket. Let me know what you think. It says it's for the novice knitter. I hope that means beginner in the knitting world. I can already see I'll be using my friend "YouTube" often during this process.

Oh no, hubby just brought the mail in. This obsession could get out of hand.
I need to get my sewing machine fixed.
Pronto!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!!

MIA...

I've been Missing-In-Action, or should I say missing and in action. Missing from my blog and helping my brother repair the ceiling in my dad's bedroom. Those old houses were built well, but when you start to work on one you quickly realize what it means to be more than one hundred years old. A one day job took us much longer. At first we sought perfection and then decided that to achieve perfection would be possible only if the hundred year old room was somewhat perfect to start with, so we decided to lower our standards and go with clean and better than it was. We achieved our goal. It actually looks really well.

In the process of cleaning the room I went through some of my mother's old crochet magazines and brought a sack of them home with me. As I was looking through them I came up with a plan. I decided to crochet 100 cats and upon reaching my goal of 100 I will then find a home for them. I'm thinking Africa, but it may have to be somewhere closer to home. I have a few ideas, but no need to worry about that yet I am only on number four. Ha!
Have a great day!!!

Knitting Obsession...

This is my third attempt at these little newborn baby hats. The first one didn't turn out, second one was okay, but this third one is really coming along. I've had to pull out my book and learn to decrease and refresh my skills for binding off, but think I might actually be making some progress on the road to teaching myself to knit.
Hope everyone has a great week-end!!!

I Am Determined...

To learn to knit.
I've been trying to learn off and on for about 6 years. Each year at our family New Year's Eve party my mother would pack up her knitting, bring it with her and try her best to teach me. This went on for three years. I still haven't mastered the art of knitting. I've ripped out all but two of the projects I started. One was a little white baby cap and the other a Prayer Shawl. I still haven't progressed beyond the beginner stage, but have decided to try again. This time I am determined. Wish me luck!
