After all the freezing weather we've had this week, today was beautiful. I decided to build a fire pit in the back yard. My consulting team showed up just in case they were needed.
This is the place where I post about my life and the things that inspire me-God, family, gardening, quilting, reading, cooking, photography.

The Perfect Combination...
Sleet, Snow, & Chili...
The weather here is turning nasty. I went out this morning to feed the kitties, and if I didn't weigh so much I might have been blown away. It's 32 degrees now. The weatherman is predicting sleet and snow. We'll see, right? It's ok with me because I got up really early this morning and started a crock pot full of chili (4lbs), so the weather is actually playing right into my hands.
I will let it cook until about 5 o'clock and then add beans for half an hour or so. This is my favorite chili mix. It's called "Williams". I took it for Christmas at my dad's and 8 lbs. were quickly scarfed down with no complaints. I put a can of Rotel in today. I like it hot, with onions, jalapenos, grated cheese, and cornbread. The longer and slower you cook it the better. I think that might be the secret.

The house is starting to smell all chili-like. Ummm can't wait.

Hazel...
Have you ever wondered why people give names to inanimate objects?
I overheard a lady this week talking about her van. She called it the "White Goose". She said when it had to be worked on she felt very sad for it and missed it dearly. My first thought was, "OK. ... that's weird.", but my next thought was, "Wait a minute, what about my RV named "Maybelle" and the guitars I call "George" and "Doc" and the mandolin named Hazel, Hazel Dickens to be exact. Then there was Godzilla, and Bluebelle and ... "Well", I say, sort of smug to Hazel, "At least I only give them names, at least "I" don't personify things that aren't real."
She didn't answer.

Eight Hours On The Road...
When I left home this morning the weather was perfect, I had a room reserved, and was in no particular hurry. This was a good thing as every antique store in my path called my name.
This is a child's viewing coffin used in the movie "Lonesome Dove." A little too creepy for my tastes.
I liked this treed coon, but I didn't like the $75.00 price tag.
My favorite kitchen store in one of my favorite towns.
At the end of the day I netted two old books, a green depression glass pitcher, an old paint scraper, buttons, a small cookie press, two pie birds, and some odds and ends.
It was a good day.
Hope you had a good day too!

Old Man Winter Returns...
The house is brimming with "littles" and it's freezing outside. We are warm and cozy inside. The best way to be.

Happy New Year...
Cleaning and cooking for two days produced a wonderful New Year's Eve party with family and friends. Lots of food, music and Texas 42. The last of the partiers left at 2:20am. and made it home safely.

Twenty Thirteen...
One thing led to another and I have hardly posted at all this year. I did however, drop in and view some of my favorite blogs. Even though I didn't comment I stopped by. My goal for this blog in 2014 is to post 300 times. I love to blog, but have to admit I got side-tracked.
Here's a recap of my year:
My little Fuzzy of "Fuzzy Fridays" turned three.
Our new baby went from this,
to this.
Crazy Hair
and
TallFeathers
were baptized.
Miss Moon Daisy started High School
and
made marching band.
Brown Hawk is still winning games.
A new baby was born.
Halloween came and went.
Youngest daughter became engaged.
And it's Christmastime again.
It's 16 degrees here and very icy.
Here's wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
If I don't see you before I'll see you on January 1st.
Stay safe and stay warm!!!
