Meet Inka And Piper...

I have had them for about eight years. They are now eight and ten. The oldest one, Piper, is starting to have problems. I took her to the vet thinking it might be diabetes. The testing was inconclusive.
She wasn't really overweight, but the vet thought it might help if I cut back on her food, so I did and she immediately lost weight. I can now clearly see the shape of her spine and ribs and even though I have begun to feed her more than ever, she can't seem to gain. She seems healthy as far as her personality goes, but seems to be wasting away.
L to R, Inka and Piper
Inka normally weighs about 2 lbs. and Piper can be anywhere from 7 to 10 lbs. Since this might well be the beginning of the end, I have taken to spoiling her a bit lately. Monday night while Christmas shopping I bought her a huge, nasty looking, hog femur. She loves it. It is the worst smelling thing I think I have ever smelled, but poor Piper, she has been such a good dog, so for now, I will sit in my chair, and watch T. V. and pretend a pork roast is cooking in the oven and that I am enjoying the aroma of her tasty snack.
Hope you have a great weekend!!!!

Warm Weather, For A Change...

After all the freezing weather we've had this week, today was beautiful. I decided to build a fire pit in the back yard. My consulting team showed up just in case they were needed.

Poor Kitty...

Whenever I leave the house I have a little orange kitten that loves to run down the sidewalk ahead of me. I am always afraid I might run over him. I play tricks to convince him to stay where I can see him as I drive off. Lately, when I tell him to stay, amazingly he does.

I have been gone since Tuesday and arrived home tonight just after dark. He ran to greet me as usual. I got out of the pick-up and went to my car to get the mail. A friend puts it in the front seat whenever I am gone for more that a day or two. This time there were several boxes of Christmas items I had ordered. I stood with the car door open for a full minute looking at return addresses to see what had arrived. I then gathered up what I could safely carry and gave the car door a gentle shove. I didn't slam it. I was coming back to get the rest of the mail, so I gave it a push, not caring if it closed all the way or not. What I didn't realize was my little orange kitten decided at that very moment to leap into the floor board of the car. The door caught him just right and broke his neck. It was very sad. I hadn't even named him.
Internet kitty.

On a happier note, here is a Santa picture of my brother and myself in 1959. We were at Leonard Brothers in Fort Worth, Texas.
I love pictures like this.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season!!!

Gypsy Cat...

Hubby and I ate at Pulido's Mexican Restaurant tonight. The restaurant has three dumpsters about 50 feet across the parking lot. When you leave you drive to the dumpsters and turn right to get back on the Interstate. One night as we were leaving I noticed two or three cats at the dumpsters and upon closer inspection I realized it wasn't two or three, it was five or six and then seven or eight. Everywhere I looked there was another cat. As I drove down the lane I kept seeing another cat and then another cat and then another one and another one. There must have been 20 cats of all colors. I swore I was going to come back with a crate and take a few home.
Tonight as I arrived I saw a skinny, scraggly looking black and white cat meandering across the parking lot, but when we left I didn't see a single cat. It was kind of sad.
I am a cat lover and will take just about any cat someone wants to give me. We live in the middle of 30 acres and without cats we have mice and snakes. And I love it when I arrive home and they all come running.
Here is one I brought home a couple of weeks ago.
Her name is Gypsy.
Have a great weekend!!!
P.S. They are all outside cats.

Inka...

I took Inka, my 2 lb. chihuahua for her yearly check-up. I had noticed her bottom teeth seemed loose, so I asked the vet about it. He said if I left her until 4:30 they would clean them. When I went back to get her they had pulled her front teeth-top and bottom.
I'm traumatized, but she just keeps on smiling.
Have a fun Friday!!!

The Candy Caper...

Here's how it went down:
Last night we took Moondaisy to see a community play and returned to find this.
I had made her a bed on the couch so she could lay and read.
I'm sure when Piper jumped up on it she never intended to eat the Reese Cups. She probably even tried to talk herself out of them.
The minute I made the discovery she knew she was in trouble. She peeked out from behind an ice chest, ran to her crate, looked at me once and refused to make eye contact again, but I'm guessing it was well worth it.
Hope you have a super Sunday!!!

Hiking in the Heat...

Today I officially broke my "no exercise" streak. I have been keeping two of my grandkids since November and that coupled with the intense heat wave we've been experiencing has pretty much kept me indoors.

Today I decided to saddle-up the stroller, drag out the leash, pack up the snacks and water (oh yes, the water) and head out on what we decided to call a "hike". I forgot the camera so used my phone.

Fuzzy ready for the hike.

We left the house and traveled north.

Giving Piper a drink.

About two blocks into it we decided north held no excitement for us, so we turned our stroller around  and headed south. I asked Tall Feathers where he wanted to hike to and he immediately said, "Wal-Mart".
I thought that sounded reasonable. I'm thinking AC and he's thinking toys. We hiked to Wal-Mart, stopped under every shade tree along the way, hid Piper in the compartment below the stroller, bought Beverly Hills Chihuahua, a toy hamster for Fuzzy, a toy motorcycle for Tall Feathers and hiked back home.

We had a great time, got plenty of exercise, and made it back in time for lunch.

Tall Feathers wants to do it again tomorrow.

Have a great day!!!!

108 in the shade...

Yesterday I got in the car to go home and as I passed by a sno-cone stand I stopped and got an extra-large, sugarfree, coconut. As I drove off happily eating my sno-cone in the hot car that hadn't yet cooled down, I looked over at Inka and Piper.

I think they might have been trying to tell me something.

Have a great weekend!!!

My Six Pound Chihuahua...

I have called the vet four times this week rescheduling Piper's yearly appointment. I just can't seem to get motivated, but today's the day. I called this morning and rescheduled for 5:00pm.

Piper is my 6 pound chihuahua. I call her my 6 pound chihuahua because that is her ideal weight and what she has normally weighed over the years. According to my daughter she is evidently not looking even close to her 6 pound moniker. I can't see it though, maybe I'm just too close to her. My daughter's exact comment was, "Piper is fat. Her head doesn't even fit her body." My twenty year-old niece, when she was four said to my mother, "Maw Maw your not fat you're just a little large" and that's how I feel about Piper. Piper is just a "little large". I will admit, however, after careful consideration that I maaay have to cut back on her food a wee bit tonight. O.K. maybe a little more than a "wee bit".

For anyone who doesn't know Piper she understands English, tells on herself and gets Inka into trouble. When Inka barks to get my attention. I can usually tell exactly what Piper is saying in the background. It goes like this, "Tell her Inka... tell her again". Inka does the barking while sweet little Piper just lays there acting innocent. She may have others fooled, but not me. I call her my "stuffed animal". Give her a place to sleep and she is happy and contented.

Last summer I decided Piper needed exercise. I took her walking with me. I started out slowly with the intent of eventually getting her to walk two miles per night. After four days Piper had had enough. Piper loves to go places and is always glad when she thinks I am going somewhere that includes her. On the fourth day I didn't have any trouble getting her in the car. When I got to the track and opened the back door everything was fine. As I reached into the floor board to retrieve the leash Piper jumped up and ran to the other side of the seat where she promptly lay down and refused to move. I felt so sorry for her that our walking days were over. I may try again this summer and go even a little slower.
