Happy Birthday Party...

Happy Birthday, Little Lawly!!!

This past week was our little Lawton's 3rd birthday. I think the last time I blogged about him he was a newborn.
His mom threw a great party. We had all the taco salad and tacos we could eat. Afterward, we had cookies and cake with little Lawly being the center of attention.
He loves Mickey Mouse, so of course, that was the theme of the party.
Blogger won't let me upload anymore pictures, so
Have a great rest of the week!!!

What's Off The Needles...

Here's a scarf I knitted for my granddaughter. She is a Harry Potter fan. You can make it any color you choose. It's very simple. I used a 16" circular size 8 needle. Cast on 70. Place marker and join in the round. Work in the stockinette stitch (knit all stitches) 7inches wide and 70 inches long without fringe, or as long as you want it.

I was taking it to her today, but seem to be under the weather a bit, so it will have to wait.

Have a great evening!

What's On The Hooks...

While keeping the two grandkids a week or so ago, Fuzzy, the four-year-old, asked if I would make him an owl. I got out the crochet hook and some yarn. Within a few minutes I had crocheted a tiny little owl no more than four inches long. He was happy.

This past week when he came he asked me to make him a bear. We looked on line and finally decided on a Paddington Bear. I was actually looking for a pattern that I had made in the mid-eighties, but didn't find it. If anyone happens to have that pattern and doesn't mind sharing please let me know.

This is the best one I could find. It is a free pattern on Ravelry. You can find it under Yellow Pink and Sparkly by Janet McMahon.  http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/paddington-bear-2 I have all the pieces completed, but not all are sewn together. It's a very easy pattern.

Here it is in it's almost completed stage.

                  Paddington has black ears.

Have a great week!

Winner of the GYB giveaway...

Have been waiting on the two week mark since the GYB post. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and to those who decided to follow. I visited many, many blogs and hope to visit more in the future. I will reveal the winner at the end of the post.

I've been babysitting two of my grandkids a few days a week since Christmas while mom and dad work on the building of a new house. They are four and two. Four is a very fun age. They can say the cutest things while being perfectly serious. One evening I told them, "Let's go to the kitchen it's suppertime." Fuzzy, the four-year-old, threw his arms in the air and shouted, "Yes, it's suckertime. I love suckers." When I told him I didn't say suckertime he said, "Next time say it's foodtime and I'll understand." Luckily, I just happened to have two suckers, from Lord knows when, in the pantry, so it all worked out. I also learned something about myself. According to Fuzzy, I look better with my glasses on. I thanked him for the tip and wondered silently if pulling my glasses on and off in public was a good idea or not. Here is a "selfie" taken on his mother's phone and sent to me as they were driving home.

The two-year-old had to have glasses last week. While I was keeping him I noticed his eyes were crossing. After his mother picked him up she called and said she had noticed it too. It was rather severe. She immediately called for an appointment with a pediatric ophthalmologist.

After a few days of wearing them he refused to let his mother take them off when it was time for bed.

WINNER OF THE DRAWING IS:
ALEXIS BOORSBOOM

I will contact via email.

Thanks again to everyone who visited.
Have a great week!

Old Man Winter Returns...

The house is brimming with "littles" and it's freezing outside. We are warm and cozy inside. The best way to be.

My Obsession...

My recent obsession with knitting has begun to take on a life of it's on. Several years ago I found myself immersed in quilting, which I still love to do, however, with my machine on the fritz I haven't pieced in quite some time, but at that time I decided I loved piecing quilts so much that I would probably never crochet again. I proceeded to gather up all my yarn. I filled a black garbage bag full and took it to my mother. She was glad to have it. She was the type who used whatever yarn she had on hand and made many colorful afghans. Now that she has passed away the yarn is at my dad's house.

I found myself in his house the other day going through her yarn to find bits and colors to fit a particular ongoing project that uses small amounts. I'm trying my best not to let that black garbage bag find it's way back home. I think I should just continue to pilfer---as needed.

While my mother taught me how to crochet at 15 she could never get knitting through my thick skull. I am slowly but surely improving. Learning to knit is like learning to play bridge. I have this over-whelming feeling that if I practice the rest of my life I'll never learn it all.

My son called Wednesday to let me know we have another grandchild on the way. The baby is due in September, so this gives me some elbow room. Ha! I'm such a procrastinator. Anyway, I'm going to try to knit this baby blanket. Let me know what you think. It says it's for the novice knitter. I hope that means beginner in the knitting world. I can already see I'll be using my friend "YouTube" often during this process.

Oh no, hubby just brought the mail in. This obsession could get out of hand.
I need to get my sewing machine fixed.
Pronto!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Flat Stanley...

Flat Stanley goes back to school this week. If you aren't familiar with Flat Stanley then let me enlighten you. Flat Stanley is a book written by Jeff Brown in 1964.
Flat Stanley His Original Adventure (His Original Adventure): Jeff ...
Stanley Lambchop and his brother Arthur are given a bulletin board by their dad. Dad hangs it on the wall over Stanley's bed. During the night the board falls, flattening Stanley. Other than being flat Stanley is fine, but with one advantage, he can now visit his friends by being mailed in an envelope.

Teachers use this book as a social studies resource. They have each student color their own Flat Stanley and mail him to friends and relatives asking them to show Stanley a good time, keep a record of his adventures and eventually mail him back to the school.

I received my first Stanley about 14 years ago from my third grade niece, 3 years ago from my 2nd grade grandson, and now from another 2nd grade grandson.

Here are some of Stanley's adventures:

He arrived on October 31st.
He had to go trick-or-treating, of course.
He accompanied us on a cruise and enjoyed suntanning on the beach.
That meant he had to have his own passport.

He had a great time with Crazy Hair's PawPaw and MeMaw
and is on his way home to Mrs. Mazza's 2nd grade classroom.

I had a great time with him too.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and thanks to my blogging friends for helping me get my pictures posted.

What Better Way To Start The New Year...

What better way to start the new year than by keeping grandkids. I'm at their house spending the night while mom and dad are in Grandbury, Texas doing some shopping. Grandbury is known for the cute little specialty shops that surround the courthouse square.

At one point today they called for a favor-could I measure their table. I did and they reported back saying they had bought one.

They took the new baby with them, so it's me, Tallfeathers and Fuzzy. So far we've watched Toystory 3, Avengers, Thomas the Train, The Birds, and Charlie Brown's Christmas. We've been taking turns picking the movies. We've had Chicken Fajitas and corn, Pizza, Popcorn, Cereal, lunchables and a mini ice cream sandwich.

We're staying warm and having a blast.

Earlier today I said out loud, "My back hurts." Later in the day, Fuzzy said, "My back hurts."

Have a great rest of the week!!!

The Party's Over...

We had to have an early Christmas party with our kids this year due to some scheduling difficulties. It was my turn to host. Originally I had it planned for December 22, but another family party was scheduled on top of ours and I try to remain flexible. So, between the birth of the new baby, the cruise and three weeks of being sick I almost ran out of time. I have been working non-stop trying to get presents bought and wrapped, Christmas cards mailed, house cleaned (oh my that was a killer), Christmas tree bought and decorated, and groceries purchased and cooked. Since hubby works out of town it all fell to Mwa.

I'll start with the baby. He has finally started to gain some weight and even smile. I was worried about him for awhile. He seemed so scrawny and wiry (hope those are acceptable words when describing ones newborn grandson). Every time I held him I would say, "There's just nothing to him". I was certainly in for a surprise when they arrived Saturday.  There was actually some meat on his little bones and then yesterday my daughter texted this picture of him smiling.
I can stop worrying and will try to find better adjectives when describing him. Adjectives like precious, sweet, and cute and I may even  get to talk about his baby fat in a month or two.

The cruise was great as usual. We went to Key West and the Bahamas. I chose Key West in order to tour Hemingway's home. Hemingway had six-toed cats. After his death and after turning the home into a tourist attraction they continued to breed the cats. There were six-toed cats everywhere. They were under bushes, in the house, lazing on the porch, and one was even on the bed. We took a walking tour of that area and wound up at Hemingway's favorite hang-out, "Sloppy Joe's". It was a nice vacation.
Two days before the cruise I started getting the dreaded sore-throat. I was sick the entire cruise, and two weeks afterward. Finally went to the doctor. He gave me a Z-pac and some funny looking pills to take for cough. I coughed until my muscles hurt on the cruise, but the minute I got to the doctor's office I felt better. As soon as the sickness left and I got my energy back it was time to start preparing for the party. No time in-between.
I shopped, bought, wrapped, decorated and cooked. They started showing up about noon Saturday. Everything went off with out a hitch. It's amazing how long it takes to prepare and how soon it's all over. I cleaned some Saturday night and Sunday and by Monday was starting to feel a little like a free-spirit again. Today I'm sipping my "warm baudee" (at two my uncle couldn't say coffee), writing this blog and wondering what to do with all this free time. Well, actually I do have that party on the 22nd and my dad's on the 25th, but everything is squared-away, so I'll feel more like a guest and less like a host.
The Three Santa's.

Oh, I mean four.
They passed out the presents and we had another successful Christmas. Zombies seemed to be the sought after gift this year and they were in abundance at our party. And let's not forget Spiderman because what would any party be if "Pidaman" didn't show up.
This was our Christmas Elf that kept popping in and out of every picture we took. (I wouldn't pay the $30 for the one from Target  every one seems to be crazy about this year). I liked mine better anyway.
Even the donkeys got in the Christmas Spirit.
Have a great day and a Merry Christmas!!!

Seventeen Shopping Days Left...

A couple more gift cards and I'll be through with my Christmas shopping. Yeah!!!

Who would have thought a GI Joe would cost $30.00 (if you can find one). I guess it was a bargain though because you can throw him up into the air and his parachute will open. I wonder how many times he'll need to be rescued from the top of a tree or house?

And the "Walking Dead" Zombies-OMG-I don't even want to go there.

The one bargain I did get, after pawing for 20 minutes through the $5.00 bin of  Christmas CD's, was three Bing Crosby CD's.

Merry Christmas!
Have a good weekend!!!

Jammin'...

Jam

Made from the sweet, juicy, delicious flesh of pounds and pounds of fuzzy, reddish/yellow Elberta peaches. Peaches picked by three laughing, bubbly kids on summer break. Picked from the carefully tended tree in their great-grandfather's back yard orchard.

The results...

mmmmmm!!!!

Hoping your weekend is a good one!!!

Good Bye Spa La La...

And a great spa it was.

While there I received a wonderful pedicure courtesy of Moon Daisy. I am generally conservative in everything I do, or is that old, anyway I normally paint my toenails red or pink, but I told Moon Daisy to do whatever she wanted to. I knew I wasn't going anywhere for a while, so I just relaxed and enjoyed the pedicure. I now have the greatest looking green and white toenails I've ever seen. Half white and half green, painted diagonally. She really did a good job. The problem? Tomorrow I leave on a trip with the church and I'm trying to decide which shoes to wear. Do I step out of my comfort zone and go with the open-toed, or do I wear the closed-toed?
Have a great rest of the week!!!

The Spa Treatment...

This is going to be one lazy week. I hope I don't gain 10 pounds.

I am being totally pampered and this includes back massages, someone to prepare the meals, snacks offered every few moments, a chair to prop my feet upon, a large comfy couch complete with blanket and pillow, hugs and snuggles, and sno-cones prepared especially for me.

Where am I?

At an exclusive spa, perhaps?

In Beverly Hills, maybe?

On a Caribbean cruise?

No, I'm staying with the grandkids while their parents are away.

Brown Hawk gives the best massages around and he cooks! He made chicken Taquito's for lunch and a cherry sno-cone for dessert.
He says he's making chicken nuggets and pizza rolls for supper
 while Moon Daisy makes brownies.
Crazy Hair can eat more snack food than ought to be allowed by law, but always offers to share.
Yes, I can tell this is going to be one lazy week.
And I can't wait.
Hope you have a great and lazy week too!!!

It's A Boy...

Saturday was the big day. We gathered at my daughter's house. Her hubby grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. Afterwards we cut the cake.
Anticipation
It's a boy!!!
Even our son in Utah was able to participate.
It was blue inside, so if the good Lord's willing we are going to have our 5th grandson. Our only granddaughter just turned 13, so most of us were hoping for a girl, but we'll certainly take another precious little man.
Jesse Lawton is due November 16, 2012.
Have a great holiday week!!!

My little Fuzzy has moved to Houston for the summer. I'm going to miss him. This is him at his new residence in Houston. Looks like he is glad to be there.
Hope everyone has a blessed weekend!!!

Shave And A Haircut Six-Bits...

An hour after a conversation with his dad about how someday he would also have to shave, Tallfeathers emerged from the shower looking like this.
Thankfully when they got him cleaned up it wasn't as bad as it looked.
He may sport a beard and mustache when he is older.
Have a nice day!

Very Entertaining...

Today was my first day alone in 10 days and I can tell you entertaining a seven-year-old doesn't leave much time for blogging.
Endless games of Skip-Bo,
Chess, Scrabble, and Boggle,
coupled with hours of "Adventure Time" cartoons, popcorn, cosmic brownies, and
coffee, cause that's what you do when you come to Memaw's house,
Blizzard's from Dairy Queen, burritos from Mexico City Cafe, and
balloon animals
can cause one to forget about blogging altogether.
And while feeding the giraffes at the zoo was a hit,
all three of us squeezing into one kiddie car was an even bigger hit.
He chose rocks for his souvenir
and played ninja in the Pampas grass.
We ate at Cracker Barrel and went to see Jaws on the big screen.
I didn't have time for blogging this week, but had a lot of fun with my little Crazy Hair.
Have a great week!!!
